Leuprolide is a long-acting form of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), which is a hormone normally released from the hypothalamus. It is referred to as an agonist. Leuprolide may be used for a number of different medical problems. These include treatment for: Prevention of premature LH surges with Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART); anemia caused by bleeding of uterine leiomyomas (tumors in the uterus); central precocious puberty (CPP); pain due to endometriosis in women. Leuprolide is similar to a hormone normally released from the hypothalamus gland.
